Community Representative
The primary role of the Community Representative is to represent the community which has been harmed by criminal activity at a Restorative Justice Session. The Community Representative will interact directly with Caseworkers and the Coordinator of Volunteers and will have the responsibility of representing and articulating the interests of diverse communities within the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) in response to the impact and effect of the crime.
As a Community Representative, you will:
- Participate in a Restorative Justice process
- Listen to the stories of all participants at a Restorative Justice Session
- Express the “ripple effect” that crime has on a community, thus informing youth about the local and global impact of their actions
Skills Required
Community Representatives are knowledgeable, non-judgmental, caring individuals residing in various communities within the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Some of the skills required are:
- Communication Skills
- Good listening skills
- Commitment to the Community Justice Society Mission
- Patient
- Polite
- Courteous
- Confident
- Ability to work with youth
- Ability to work with victims
- Ability to be open minded.
